IC Information
Name: Ib
Nicknames/Alias: N/A
Age:9
Source canon:Ib
Personality:
Ib is a quiet, polite, well behaved little girl. Even though she's only nine, her parents have no problem allowing her to explore an art gallery unsupervised. Her mother even says that they don't have to worry about her causing trouble for the other patrons. She's a curious child though, and talks to many of the other visitors to the gallery, asking questions about various paintings. And she asks Garry a barrage of questions every time they have a spare minute. Because of her age, she's still pretty innocent and gets confused when Garry won't explain the meanings of certain words to her. (They're dirty) And if Garry dies, she mistakenly thinks he is sleeping.

Ib is also a kind girl, and reaches out in friendship to both Garry and Mary without a second thought. And even after Mary is revealed as one of the paintings, even after she threatens Ib with a palette knife, Ib still worries about her. And Garry has to convince her to leave Mary behind. And when she meets Garry, she has to face the Lady in Blue to get his rose back, risking her life for a total stranger. When Garry is injured Ib even gives him her precious handkerchief, the one her mother gave her, to bandage his wound.

And despite her delicate appearance, Ib is a very brave girl. When she finds herself alone in the dark art gallery, she doesn't panic. Instead she investigates, going deeper and deeper in while trying to find her way out. This isn't to say she's not scared, but real courage is moving on despite fear. Which she does. She's clever too, solving a number of logic puzzles along the way. There are some puzzles that contain traps, and living painting and statues that hurt her, but still she continues on. And she has to go through a significant part of the gallery on her own. Even after Garry joins her, Ib is frequently the braver of the pair. More level headed too. She stops Garry whenever he gets frustrated and tries to kick one of the statues.

There are a few things that do break through her courage though. She is visibly disturbed when they find a portrait of her parents in the dark gallery, and passes out after narrowly escaping from an assault by multiple enemies at once. But with some encouragement from Garry, she pulls herself together and they keep going. She's also extremely upset if Garry fails to break out of the doll room, slapping him back to his senses then hugging him tightly when he snaps out of it. And, while she doesn't want to hurt Mary, she will burn her painting if backed into a corner.

As far as the AU is concerned, Ib has been working in a circus for the last two years, which has led her to be a little more confident and outgoing than she was in canon. And probably a little more cheeky too. Bad influences and all.

Canon history: Wiki! Canon point is post game, Promise of Reunion ending.

AU Information
Appearance: Ib looks like this. But the long version is that she's a delicate looking young girl with long brown hair that is noted to be silky. She also has red eyes, but if that's deemed too supernatural then they can be brown for the purposes of au. She's short for her age and Garry notes that she looks thin. She's pretty pale too, so this is probably an indoor kind of kid. In the AU however, she's been working with a circus which has given her more time outside, to get a slight tan, as well as a chance to build up a little muscle. She's still short though, nothing the circus can do to help with that.
AU History:
Ib's story really begins before she was even born. Weiss Guertena was a struggling artist who was eking out a living by doing illustrations for advertisements and magazines. In fact he did a number of posters for a certain circus that Lethevale is about to become very familiar with and in the process developed a friendship with the circus proprietor. More on that later. His work was always brilliant and innovative, but he had a general lack of business sense that led him undersell himself a lot. But then he met a beautiful, brilliant woman named Rosalie. She quickly became his muse, his wife, and his whole world. In his efforts to convey his feelings he painted the 'Lady in Red,' a portrait of Rosalie that was so stunning that every person she showed it to wanted to commission a portrait of their own.

It helped that she did have considerable business sense and understood how to best support his career as an artist. His portraits are said to truly capture the very soul of the subject and every single one he painted seemed to attract an even wealthier patron, and soon enough he was famous throughout Europe, even painting for nobility. It was during this happy time that the couple had a child. And so we come to Ib.

Ib's early years were happy and carefree. The family lived in Belgium, but traveled often because of her father's work. And both of her parents were kind and indulgent and she never wanted for anything. She was proud of her father's beautiful paintings and how happy they made people and one of her favorite things as a child was watching him paint. But this idyllic life came to a tragic end one rainy day when her mother never made it home from a shopping trip. When her body was found the police concluded the she'd been the victim of a robbery. This happened mere days before Ib's seventh birthday.

Something in Weiss Guertena just cracked at the loss of his wife and he quickly spiraled into depression. This was a difficult time for Ib to say the least. Not only had she lost her mother, but her father began pushing her away. He would lock himself in his studio for days on end, never speaking, staring at a blank canvass. He stopped accepting commissions, and would only occasionally emerge to get food or water. When he did, he refused to acknowledge Ib, who couldn't understand why. The truth is that she so resembled her mother that he found he could no longer bear the sight of her.

After a month of this, Weiss began to realize that even if he was doomed to wander in this aimless depression, he had to do something for his daughter. To get her away for a while. At least until he could pull himself together. He called up an old friend, Jack Napier, who happened to be the proprietor of the aforementioned circus as well as Ib's godfather. He convinced Jack to look after Ib for a while. Just until things got better.

At first Ib was doubtful. She didn't want to leave her father, especially considering how sad he was. But he promised to write and to bring her home as soon as he could. He did write letters when he remembered and sent modest amounts of money with each one. But these were irregular and sometimes she would go several months without hearing from him. That said, Ib took to life in the circus fairly well. She loves animals, and so wound up assisting the animal trainer. At first she just helped with care and feeding and cleaning, but it was quickly discovered that the audience found certain aspects of the act much more exciting when she was involved. When your lion tamer is a grown man the show is exciting, but when that same 'lion tamer' is a little girl, the show is unique.

Of course she didn't really tame any lions. More like made friends with an already pretty tame lion, as well as many of the other animals. The trainer did all the actual work and Ib just makes for a better 'face' for the act. The actual trainer is always close at hand during the show, and is often the one issuing the actual commands. Although he often jokes that the animals like Ib better anyway and he may as well just retire. Ib has come to enjoy living with the circus, but maintains the belief that it's only temporary. One day her father will bring her back home and they'll be a family again. Really. He will.

And it seems like tragedy has even followed her to circus. Jack's wife Jeannie, who had been almost like a second mother to Ib, suddenly died. And only months later Uncle Jack went and found a new wife. This is a lot of upheaval for a girl her age and Ib isn't sure what to think. This is further complicated by the most recent letter from her father, recieved just recently. It was... strange. He talked about how he could finally breathe life into his work, to truly capture the soul of a subject in his art. And how his muse could reach out to him across even death. Ib doesn't understand any of that, but is excited by the fact that he's painting again. And his promise that they can be reunited soon.

It's more likely he's losing his grip on sanity, but no one has explained that to Ib yet. As far as she's concerned, things are looking up. And now the circus rolls into Lethevale...
.
Job: Ib works for the circus, helping out the animal trainer.
Reason for coming to Lethevale: Ib came here with her uncle Jack's circus. As far as she knows, this is just another show.
Inventory: A small handkerchief with her name embroidered on it. Her mother made it for her and she treasures it.
Sample: Threads here and here.

QUIRK IN-DEPTH: Since taking on Red's essence, Ib has developed a fear of wolves(and to a lesser extent, dogs) and will probably be very nervous dealing with anyone who has a canine type essence. She's also very attached to her new hooded cloak and will wear it everywhere.

ABILITIES
WEAPON: A cape and a hood
STYLE: Which will not protect you the way that they should.

Seriously though, Ib has no powers normally. Normal human girl here. But with Red's essence she will always be able to see a person's true form, even when disguised by mundane or magical means. Also the red cape is a good luck charm, and will cause helpful things to happen when she's in trouble. (alerting nearby allies, causing some kind of distraction for enemies, letting her stumble on the perfect hiding place when she's fleeing, etc)

Third-Person Sample:

“Ohh! We're so high up!”

Her voice is almost lost in the wind blowing across the deck. This is Ib's first time traveling to another city since she arrived, and she'd thought the airships looked impressive when they were still on the ground. In the air they were at least ten times as incredible. She's near the edge of one of the decks, peering as far over the side as her moogle will allow.

“Look, there's the castle! And the stadium!

….....

The city looks so small from here...”

And getting smaller. It was a strange feeling to watch something as large as Aqures Ixen shrink away to nothing on the horizon. How long would it be before their destination appeared in the distance? She starts heading to the other side of the deck for a better view.

“I wonder what Balicea is like....”

Mognet Sample:

[She's had Rose take down the letter so it looks neater and hopefully more grown up.]

The man at the chocobo farm said he was all out of chocobos. He gave me some bait though. He said I could catch one myself. Does anyone know anything about them? I really need some help. I don't know very much about them at all. So if there's anyone else who wants a chocobo I thought maybe we could work together. Thanks.

[Oh, wait.]

Meet me at the Chocobo Farm if you're interested. Thanks.

[Did she say thanks twice? Oh, well.... it's fine the way it is.]
